An important announcement from Executive Director Michael Rigsby

Dear friends and colleagues,

Since 2008, Elm City Consort has prepared and presented free concerts of early music to audiences in New Haven and beyond. Over the years, we have explored repertoire spanning more than six centuries. What began as a small gathering of music-loving friends has grown into an integral and much-loved part of New Haven’s cultural landscape. None of this would have been possible without the generous support of our loyal patrons, and for that we are profoundly grateful. Thank you.

Elm City Consort has also been a personal labor of love. Serving as Executive Director from the organization’s inception has been a true honor. Over the years, as our concert offerings have grown in both number and complexity, so have the demands associated with artistic and administrative leadership. Now, it is time for me to step back from some of these responsibilities. With this in mind, the Board of Directors has made the decision to forego a regular 2026–27 concert season. This period will serve as an opportunity for thoughtful deliberation regarding the future of Elm City Consort, as we consider how — and whether — the organization will continue.

During the upcoming sabbatical year, Elm City Consort will suspend active fundraising efforts. However, the organization will remain registered to participate in the Great Give event this May. Throughout its history, Elm City Consort has dedicated more than 90% of its donated funds to supporting its musicians. Moving forward, any gifts received will be allocated to ensure the current season concludes with a balanced budget and to maintain essential administrative operations while the future direction of the organization is being considered.

As I look back, I am filled with gratitude for the support of our audiences, donors, and musical colleagues. I carry many wonderful memories of making music with — and for — people eager to explore repertoire of all kinds, from familiar classics to undiscovered oddities and everything in between. I am especially gratified that Elm City Consort has provided opportunities to incredibly talented musicians early in their careers, many of whom are now well-established leaders in their fields. I feel very fortunate to have had this opportunity, and I thank you sincerely for making it possible.

Over the coming year, we will keep you informed about what the future holds for Elm City Consort. As always, I and my colleagues on the Board of Directors welcome your input. No matter how things turn out, I hope we get the chance to celebrate everything we’ve achieved as a team.

With gratitude and best wishes,

Michael Rigsby,
 Executive Director
